I’m a former Infantry soldier and a below elbow amputee, resulting in a loss of my muscles around the joint such as arm, back and shoulder. Since training with Mike my overall improvement has been greatly noticeable. Mike thinks very carefully about each of the exercises I perform and tailors them to my physical abilities.

To give Mike more of a challenge, I have very poor balance because of my fractured skull and lower spine compression injury, which has resulted in reduced

mobility to my left leg and foot. We have worked hard on my core and leg strength to help with controlling and protecting my lower spine together with plenty of stretching for flexibility. We also work on my upper body with numerous exercises where my prosthetic which Mike helped to design for practical gym use.

I train with Mike twice a week whereby his discipline, thoughtfulness and sense of humour have helped me enormously both physically and mentally.

Mike is always thoroughly well prepared, very upbeat and positive in his manner, I owe him a lot.

Three years ago I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Soon after it was suggested to me that I might benefit from going to a gym regularly with a trainer who had experience of helping people with conditions like mine. I thought I would try it out and have to say I am extremely grateful to have done so and found Mike.

Mike understands how to help my condition, by emphasising what I can do and not focussing on my limitations. We’ve trained at the right pace and level of challenge for me, it really does make all the difference.

I am generally fitter and more mobile than I would be otherwise allowing to continued my passion for playing golf a few a times a week. I have been suffering with Rheumatoid Arthritis for the past 13 years and realised early on that exercise is the key to strengthening the muscles that support and protect the joints.

I have been going to the gym for the past couple of years and have been doing exercises on my own, but felt I needed more help to improve stamina, boost my immune system and to target specific areas, like shoulders. I have been attending Mike’s personal training sessions for more than a year now and all the weight bearing exercises, balance, core work and stretching has definitely made me stronger and fitter.

Last Christmas was the first time I was not sick with a chest infection. I am convinced it has something to do with the way we managed my exercise program and keeping a food diary to see which foods would trigger a flare up. I say ‘we’ because it works both ways. You have to be honest with yourself and listen to Mike’s advice as what he says makes sense.

Every session is never the same and currently we are doing weights, which is something I never dreamed I would be able to handle!
